I straightened my hair for the first time in two years on Thursday of last week.  I deep conditioned the night before and used a heat-protectant, thinking I was immune to heat damage. Boy was I WRONG!

Looks pretty healthy right? Well I left it straight for about a week because my roots were beginning to puff.  I washed my hair thinking my curls would naturally pop back into place. Nope, not in the slightest. My curls returned in a much looser, stringy form.  Who is that girl in the mirror because this is not MY hair!

After throwing a hissy fit for a while I decided to try my first protein treatment. I used 2 eggs, 1/2 cup plain yogurt, 2 tbsp pure honey, and 2 tbsp olive oil.  

Once I mixed the ingredients, I let it sit while I co-washed my hair using Giovanni’s Smooth as Silk Deep Moisture Conditioner.  I am still deciding which conditioner I like most for co-washes.  Right now it’s a tie between this one and the Tresemme Naturals, but that’s neither here nor there.

So, once the co-wash was complete, I patted my hair with a cotton shirt then applied a generous amount to my hair and scalp, covered it with a plastic shower cap, and let it sit for 30 minutes.


I noticed a difference instantly.  After I rinsed out the treatment, my hair felt significantly stronger and the curls were beginning to take their original form.  WOOHOO! We’re on the right track to recovery.  I will definitely do this again in two weeks to help build back my mane’s strength.
